GodSquad Info and Itinerary:
Q: What is God’s Squad?
A: God’s Squad is a super cool, fun group for 5-6-7th graders that will travel around the Kansas City area doing service projects or missions. We are a ministry of Asbury United Methodist Church in Prairie Village, KS.
Q: What are service projects or missions?
A: Service projects are opportunities to do work like Jesus and his disciples did…things like feeding the hungry, welcoming strangers, comforting the lonely.
Q: When do you meet?
A: God’s Squad meets during the summer for one week—one solid week of discipleship in action! This summer’s God’s Squad is scheduled for June 26-30. Please check meeting times CAREFULLY on the enclosed schedule. We gather in the Welcome Center. We try to allot at least 30 minutes for travel time.
Q: Why would I want to be part of God’s Squad?
A: You will get to have fun, serve God and others, and make great friends. Besides, video games become pretty boring in the summer. AND you’ll get a t-shirt!
Q: How can I be part of God Squad Week?
A: You or your parent can fill out the enclosed registration form by June 1, 2017. Return the completed form to the church with your t-shirt size and $15 check for registration made out to Asbury UMC (God Squad on the memo line). You are in like Flynn for the week! Registration covers the cost of t-shirt. Worlds of Fun will be an extra expense.
Q: Wait, isn’t this the same week as VBS?
A: Yes, it is. We plan it that way! Go home, take a nap and return to be in service during VBS. We LOVE IT when our Tweens come back as VBS Helpers!
FRIENDS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME TO JOIN YOU; PLEASE INVITE THEM!
WE at GOD SQUAD Headquarters look forward to hearing from you soon!

Weekly Sunday School meets at 10 a.m. for children PreK-6th grade. Holy Moly and Connect present biblical stories in ways that inspire creative questions and response through arts, crafts, and games linked to the stories being presented.
Children's Church is a Sunday Worship Service designed for kids that immediately follows the Children's Moment during 11 a.m. worship in the Sanctuary, PreK-2nd grade children are invited to join adult worship leaders in Room 158 for worship designed for children. Each week, children will hear, study and explore the same scripture and theme in age appropriate ways that the larger congregation is hearing during the sermon. This allows children and their caregivers to continue the conversation weekly worship inspires. Our young disciples will rejoin worship toward the end of the service to participate with the larger congregation.
Nursery: The nursery is the first place where children learn of God’s great love for them. Our caregivers offer children a safe and loving place to encounter God’s love through age appropriate activities designed for Toddlers and Twos, as well as a special Sunday School class for 3-year-olds. Nursery care is available from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sundays for children birth to 5 years.
Acolyte: 4th to 6th graders are invited to serve as acolytes. Acolytes bring the light of Christ into the midst of the congregation and lead us into the world with Christ’s light each week. Serving as an acolyte allows children to participate in worship in a new and age appropriate manner.
Wonder of Worship (WOW) Children’s Choir meets weekly on Sundays from 4-5 p.m. During this time, children will rehearse music and learn about elements of worship in and through games, crafts and even dramatic readings. WOW sings monthly in 11 a.m. worship and is open to children enrolled in 1st-4th grade.
The Cherub Choir is a group of 3-5 year-olds that meets during special times of the year, Mother's Day & Holiday Season. The group practices simple songs with actions during the Sunday School hour. This singing group allows the youngest members of Asbury to offer their gifts and graces to God by singing in worship.
GodSquad! is a group of 5th and 6th graders on a mission to do God’s work in the world. Each week, God Squad meets to gather in fellowship to learn, serve, and grow. For one week each summer, we meet each day to do a marathon of good works around the city. Join us as we put our faith into action!
