  • Rev. Gayla Rapp

    senior Pastor

    Rev. Gayla Rapp is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church with over 20 years experience in the Kansas West and Kansas East Conferences. She is proud of her Kansas heritage, having been born in Kansas to parents who were both born and raised on Kansas farms. Gayla is a graduate of Southwestern College in Winfield, KS (BA in Philosophy and Religion) and Drew University Theological School, Madison New Jersey (MDiv).

    Gayla has served in a variety of church settings--urban and rural--small, medium and large size churches as well as campus ministry. She has found blessings in every size and setting of ministry. Gayla loves ministry in the local church, since it gives her the opportunity to meet and relate to people in all ages and stages of life. Her particular passions in ministry include vibrant worship and ministry with children and youth. Gayla is excited to serve at Asbury Church where thoughtful and compassionate people of faith are creating a community where all are welcome.

  • Rev. Lee Johnson

    Associate Pastor & Congregational Care Pastor

    Rev. Lee Johnson has been in ministry for 30 years. He began his journey as a student at St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City. Throughout his years in ministry, Rev. Lee has served United Methodist churches of all settings and sizes in Nebraska, his home state, and the Kansas City Area. This is Rev. Lee’s third time serving at Asbury, where he is the Associate Pastor with a focus in pastoral care and older adult ministry.

    Rev. Lee’s passion for ministry comes from people. He loves experiencing, caring for, connecting with, learning from and sharing stories with all people.

  • Lindsey Lang

    Director of Music

    Lindsey received her Master’s degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Missouri in 2008 and then studied for two years at the Early Music Institute in Bloomington, IN. Now as a freelance performer, she has sung all over North and South America and frequents the Kansas City music scene. She currently sings with the Kansas City Chorale and other Midwestern choral groups.

    Lindsey is passionate about all kinds of music from classical to jazz to pop, and is excited to incorporate these styles into worship at Asbury. In addition to her work at Asbury, Lindsey teaches voice lessons to all ages, and enjoys cooking and crafting with her husband Frank.

  • Kelly has been in education most of her adult life. Graduating from K-State with a degree in education, she taught middle school in Wichita, KS. Then moving around the US, she moved into adult education and training before leaving the workplace to be a stay at home mom. Now that the two kids are growing up, she decided to get more involved at church. 

    Kelly wants to make sure  every adult that attends Asbury has the opportunity to create deeper connections through small groups, Sunday school classes or various organizations. If you would like to get more involved with others at Asbury, or have an idea for a class, please contact Kelly.

  • Kim Maddox

    Business Administrator

    For the past 20 years, Kim has worked in churches (with Wesleyan Tradition) in accounting and business administrator roles. Kim is originally from Roanoke, VA, and received her degree in accounting from Oral Roberts University. She currently lives in Overland Park with her husband, and has three children. 

  • Ann Porter

    Children's Center Director

    Ann joins the Asbury Children's Center with 20+ years experience in the field of early childhood education, and a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Pittsburg State University. Previous experience includes 6 years as director at a Christian early learning center, and was the assistant director for 7 years prior to that.

    When not shaping the lives of children at the ACC, Ann loves spending time and camping with her husband and two sons, ages 2.5 & 7.

  • Cortney Inbody

    Office Coordinator & Financial Secretary

    Cortney Inbody joins Asbury with 10+ years administrative experience. Cortney holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Kansas, and begins graduate studies towards an MDiv in fall 2017 at St. Paul School of Theology. She is passionate about fostering an inclusive, peaceful, and loving community across lifestyles and faith traditions and is excited to work in a Reconciling Congregation.

    Cortney and her husband Clifford (Ford) married in 2012 and are raising two beautiful rescue dogs together. When they’re not working they are often found traveling, camping or hiking in the great outdoors, listening to old records, trying a new recipe, or spending time with friends and loved ones.

  • Dave Burton

    Facilities Management Coordinator

    Dave Burton is in charge of keeping things clean and running at Asbury. He was an event coordinator in the U.S. Air Force, and has been at Asbury for over 10 years. Dave is also in demand as professional DJ in the evenings and on weekends.

    Nursery Coordinator

    Georgann Mai has a passion for caring for children. She has run Asbury's nursery for over 20 years. She is also a full-time care provider for her son, Kyle.

  • Phyllis Curtis

    Sunday Organist & Worship Team Pianist

    Phyllis Curtis has been playing the piano since the age of 5, and was a church organist at age 12. She has served as organist and director of music at various churches in Manhattan, Wichita, and the Kansas City area. She earned both a Bachelor of Science in Music Education summa cum laude and Master of Music degrees from Kansas State University. She has taught elementary classroom music in the North Kansas City, Manhattan, and Wichita public schools, and is a licensed Kindermusik instructor. Together with her husband, Frank, Phyllis co-founded The Fine Arts Institute, a 501(c3) organization that currently produces the “Love in the Afternoon” noon-time musical luncheon series that presents entertainment for the senior population at various venues in the Kansas City area. Phyllis is a member of the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance Advisory Council at Kansas State University. 

  • Darrell Ramsburg

    Saturday Worship Pianist

    Darrell Ramsburg has a masters degree in music and has been playing piano for Asbury for many years. Darrell started the Christ-in-Sight praise team, and plays in many bands across the city. Darrell plays handbells and is worship pianist for our Chapel (Casual) Worship Service.

  • Bev Ramsburg

    Bell Trio Director

    Bev Ramsburg has a degree in music from Emporia State University. She is an active member of Asbury, directing bell choirs for youth and adults for many years. Currently, Bev directs the Asbury Bell Trio for worship services.

  • Betsy Bledsoe

    Bell Choir Director

    Betsy is a local musician specializing in musical theater. She received her master’s degree from Michigan State University, but is native to the Kansas City area. Betsy is a pharmacy tech at Children’s Mercy and in her spare time enjoys theater and running.
